Cooper Young Festival – 25th Anniversary – Saturday, September 15, 2012
The Cooper Young Festival (the largest single day event in Memphis annually), hosted by the Cooper Young Business Association (CYBA), is Memphis’ most unique outdoor celebration. Held in Memphis’ largest historic district, the Cooper Young Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 15th, 2012. In its twenty-fifth year, this event has grown to be one of Memphis’ most anticipated and well attended events. This year over 120,000 guests will enjoy an appealing mix of art, music and crafts presented by over 400 artisans from around the country. The Festival is a true celebration of the arts, people, culture and Memphis heritage.
Since the CYBA began sponsoring the Festival in the fall of 1988, this event has grown to major proportions. The money that is raised, through the Festival, is distributed back into our Historic District to help in the revitalization of our community, support our local crime prevention program and non-profits, help maintain a safe residential and commercial environment and the promotion of public improvements in the area.
In addition to the Festival itself, there are several pre and post Festival events that help to promote the arts in our community:
The Thursday night before the Festival, the CYBA hosts an Art Invitational that celebrates the Poster Artist of the year and the upcoming Festival and sponsors. The Cooper Young Artist Invitational is an evening of music and art presented exclusively by local artists. All sales at the Invitational go directly to the artist whose work is sold.
The Friday evening prior to the Festival, the Cooper Young Community Association hosts the Festival Friday 4-Miler. This event is attended by approximately 1,500 runners, their friends, family and community members. The Young Artist Contest is held the first Thursday in November. The Young Artist contest is an effort to promote the love of art in school age children. This contest is open to all school age children in the Mid-South area from 1st grade to 12th grade. Prizes in the form of scholarship bonds are awarded at this event. Sponsorship opportunities are available for all of these events.
With over $100,000 in media exposure and an opportunity to be seen and heard by over 2,000,000+ people for the three weeks prior to the festival, I encourage you to partner with us.
