Cooper-Young Festival

The Cooper-Young Festival, hosted by the Cooper-Young Business Association (CYBA), is Memphis' most anticipated outdoor celebration. Held in Memphis' largest historic district, the Cooper-Young Festival is scheduled for September 13th.

In its 27th year, this event has grown tremendously and is one of Memphis' most highly attended Festivals. This year, over 130,000 guests will enjoy an appealing mix of art, music and crafts presented by over 435 artisans from around the country. The Cooper Young Festival is a true celebration of the arts, people, culture and Memphis heritage.

Cooper Young was named one of the "Top 10 Great Neighborhoods in America" by the American Planning Association in 2012. Come join us for the party and get to know why Cooper Young is Midtown!

A neighborhood Art Invitational kicks off the start of the Cooper Young Festival weekend on Thursday, September 11 this year. Each year, one artist from the neighborhood is chosen to design a poster that embraces the history, art and eclectic style of Cooper Young.

Festival Friday 4 - Miler

The Cooper-Young Festival Friday 4-Miler, will begin at the the Trestle Art by Bluff City Sports at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 12. The race is a fundraiser for the Cooper-Young Community Association. Click here to register for the race.

Jan Hankins is a native Memphian and attended the Memphis College of Art in the early 1970's. During that time, he had a home in the Cooper Young neighborhood living on Felix for some time and then Barksdale. His paintings have been exhibited in various museums across the country including the Brooks Museum and Dixon Gallery in Memphis. The Cooper Street Gallery was the first gallery that representing Jan’s work back in the 1990’s.

Hankins has worked as a sign maker and muralist in the Memphis area since the 1960s, with his handiwork displayed on the signs and sides of establishments such as Otherlands, Midtown Yoga, Evergreen Yoga and the Memphis Drum Shop. Jan has produced many signs and murals in the Cooper Young area. One of the latest was a mural in the former Au Fond Restaurant that didn’t make the renovation to what is now Alchemy located on Cooper Street.

You can see Jan’s work today at Gallery 56 located at 2156 Central Avenue.
