Festival Events

Calling All Young Artists:

Theme:  Saving the Environment – One Neighborhood at a Time.  Show will be held at Peabody Elementary 2086 Young Ave, 38104 on Thursday, November 6 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.

The Cooper Young Festival, in it’s 21st year is again celebrating young artists with its Young Artist Contest. This contest is open to all children, in all communities, grades 1-12 and is sponsored by Cadence Bank and Lenny’s Sub Shop.  Hosted by Peabody Elementary School, this event is held to encourage the love of art in school age children.

All work must be original, and no larger in size than 12 inches by 18 inches. It may be mounted on construction paper, but should not be framed, mounted on stretch boards or overly heavy.

All entries will be on exhibit for viewing. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Three $500 First Place, Three $100 Second Place, Three $75 Third Place, and Three $50 Honorable Mention - 1st - 4th grade, 5th - 8th grade, and 9th - 12th grade. These scholarship bonds, awarded by Cadence Bank, will be presented to all contest winners on the evening of the show at 7:00 pm.

Deadline for entries is Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 3:00 pm.   All entries must be delivered to the Cooper Young Business Association Office at 2120 Young Avenue - during office hours or by appointment.   Please call Tamara Walker, Director of the Cooper Young Business Association, for additional information at 901-276-7222.
